Rules & Details

Sun Nov 16, 2008, 8:53 PM
TOURNAMENT STRUCTURE:
The main competition will be a bracketed double-elimination tournament of 16 contestants taking place over 7 rounds. At the beginning of each Round, matches between contestants in each bracket will be randomly generated, and each pairing will be given a scenario to incorporate into their entries.

ELIMINATION:
This is a bracketed double-elimination competition, so all participants will begin in the Champions bracket. Losing a match in the Champions bracket will result in being dropped into the Redemption bracket. This offers contestants a second chance at the grand prize, but losing a match in the Redemption bracket will result in elimination from the main competition. Of course, that doesn't have to be the end of a player's involvement with the story, as Skirmishes and Spectator Entries from eliminated competitors are more than welcome.

SKIRMISHES:
Since this tournament is smaller in scale than other OCTs, those who don't make it into the main competition or who simply wish to participate in matches on a single-round basis may take part in the Skirmishes. These matches are less formal than those in the main tournament, and typically won't have as much impact on the storyline, but the hope is for people to have fun with them as if they were in the main competition. At the beginning of each Skirmish round, characters will be paired off randomly and given a general location for their match from Wonderland's many settings, but why they are there and what they do is entirely up to the competitors. The rounds themselves play out just like those in the main tournament, but instead of eliminating the losers of each round, points are awarded to the players. At the end of the competition, the player who has accumulated the most Skirmish points will win a prize.

SKIRMISH POINTS:
Unlike the double-elimination tournament, the winner of the Skirmishes will be determined on a point system. Winning a Skirmish round is worth 3 points, a loss is worth 1 point, and losing by default will result in a -1 point penalty. Players eliminated from the main tournament who wish to participate in the Skirmishes will have points carried over at a rate of 2 points for each round that they participated in.

SPECTATOR ENTRIES:
For those who wish to contribute, but don't want to compete, Spectator Entries are more than welcome. Whether it's a bit of fan-fiction for your favorite NPC or contestant, a side-story to flesh out your own character, or just a one-page gag, feel free to submit it and the admins will post it in the gallery.

SUBMITTING ENTRIES:
When you are ready to submit an entry, simply post it in your gallery and send a note to Wonderland-Epic with a link to it in the body of the message. We will then place a copy of the first page in the Wonderland-Epic gallery. For convenience's sake, please label it "Round ##", "Skirmish ##" or "Spectator Entry" depending on the type of entry. This isn't mandatory, but will help us sort through them.

SCHEDULING & JUDGING:
Once each round begins, participants will have a 25-day deadline to submit their entries. Once this deadline is met, any late entries will be unfortunately disqualified. Judging will take place over the next 3 days, followed by a 3 day preparation period where the matches for the next round are determined and scenarios are assigned to each match-up. Judging will be done by a panel of up to 9 judges.

DEADLINE EXTENSION:
Sometimes, life or writer's block gets in the way and makes it difficult to complete an entry on time. We understand this and want everyone to be able to finish on time, but in the interest of fairness to everyone, it will be our policy to not extend deadlines except in the most extraordinary or unavoidable of circumstances.

CHARACTER DEATH:
It is our hope to put this competition together in such a way that players can take part for as long as they wish to be involved. As such, killing your opponent is generally discouraged. Due to the double-elimination nature of the main tournament, character death (or injuries that would prevent further participation) in the Champions bracket will not be allowed at all. Still, the stakes will be getting higher as the competition progresses, so we won't be discounting character death or injury completely.
